Hey Guys
Linux MCE linuxmce.org has potential to take hold of the Media Centre and Home Automation Control market, this is providing the Linux community get full behind it. This would mean that the integration of technology wouldn't only be for the rich, but provide the benefits to the middle classes as well.
This version of Linux is primary used for Media Play back but also has the capability for controlling every aspect of your home. While there are many propriety systems out there which all use standard x86 components, they are incredibly expensive and don't have any scope for the middle classes of India. Micro$oft MCE is very limited in connectivity and compatibility with home automation products.
This is an area of which I am qualified to comment on. I am the co founder of UK's top Home Automation and Home Cinema consultancy, www.finitesolutions.co.uk.
For those Movie fans you will know the DVD is being superseded by Blu-ray Disc (BD). Unfortunately BD has been patented so open source software CAN NOT playback the discs, however Mirco$oft (plus WinDVD and PowerDVD, M$ only products) have been licenced, ensuring Micro$oft has a monopoly on the computer based players. This DB playback issue will really hold back Linux MCE, so we need to solve this asap.
If anyone is interested in looking to develop Linux MCE, or even just install and use it, let me know. I am only here until 22 of Dec, so get in touch soon.
Cheers
Morgan
