We all use many networking sites in our day-to-day life to keep in touch with our friends and relatives. Each have a liking to a networking site where they meet old friends and make new pals. But in the past few years the social networking site that's a household name is FACEBOOK or THE FACEBOOK.
I would like to share some of its key features which make it the best and stand apart from all the other hundreds of social networking sites.
1)Applications
Facebook has its own platform called as "Facebook Platform" which provides a framework for third party developers to create applications that interact with core Facebook features. This feature led to development of thousands of Apps like games, surveys, quiz etc., which gave it a new dimension.
2)Micro-Blogging
Facebook has a micro-blogging feature called "status updates" which allows users to inform their friends of their current whereabouts, actions, or thoughts.
3)Event Organizer
It lets people know about the events in the future. It sends notification and makes sure you never miss them!
4)Chat
Also This wonderful site has an in-built chat that helps in instant messaging with your friends. This feature is a solution for all the instant messengers in use.So that users won't have to use other chat messengers like GTalk,YM etc.,
5)Sharing
It also allows users to share photos and videos with friends and pals.
Do you know any of such features which could have been implemented in Facebook or is present in your favorite networking site??If yes, please do share it with me .
thanks,

Hey Mukund:Nice writeup. i'm
Nice writeup. i'm keen to know what makes people subscribe to Facebook or other social networking sites and share their personal information ?
Somehow, i never felt comfortable in the 'walled garden' that these social networking sites are, as far as sharing personal information is concerned. I also read the recent 15-year intern report.
Look forward to reading your thoughts.
thanks
Saifi.
Hi Saifi,The days are gone
The days are gone when people had inhibitions of sharing their personal information on the Net.
People like to share their information on the net for many reasons:
1)They share it to let others know of what their tastes are .. So,that they can befriend like-minded people.
2)Man is a social animal. He always wants to explore and make new contacts. This urge of his, makes the modern man use such
networking sites ....
3)Some just want to show off...
4)Other wants their pals to know what they are up to....
Every one has their own perspective of looking at it.As far as sharing the personal information is concerned,it is a matter of grave concern....Even the above Networking sites are sensitive to users personal information..they have privacy features(There are levels of privacy for various applications in facebook. If you are a registered member of facebook. Please visit https://register.facebook.com/privacy/ to see the features which are present to protect your privacy. With all this within a click's reach...Social Networking with Privacy was never made so easy....
Now when we come to the case of walled-garden....Its we who write up unnecessary things on the wall....We are responsible for our own actions thus leaking valuable personal information. We need to avoid such situations.
As far as the report is concerned......
1) I use Twitter a lot...Well at the first site even i felt it was waste of time but now i seem to have a liking for it!!
2)I download songs "SHARING IS THE BEST POLICY"
3)I read news both online as well as the paper....
4)I don't like ads in the pages it is annoying.
thanks,

P.S. Never thought i'd write such a long comment...Sorry for being a bit boring :P
Mukund, so i went and created
Here are some of the observations that i have:
Even if i turn off all the notifications, but there is no option to stop getting all the mails.
The granularity in privacy controls is missing. This is a poorly designed piece of code. By referring to Basic information / Contact information, the user has item level privacy control.
The Exclusion logic to block a person is very difficult. Let's say i want to block 'John Johnson', there'd be thousands of people with that name and it'd be very difficult to locate the right one.
Like the suggestions section and the way chunks of info disappears as the 'x' is clicked.
The bottom bar with UI icons is interesting but primitive. There's no way, i can post a link to youtube.com video. At least that was not apparent to me in the first go. By going around and searching the application, i end up wasting the time.
The insistence to "add friends" is rather high. The same screen kept coming back atleast three (3) times. In the end, Uma helped me with a Friend request to get rid of that annoyance.
Here is the usecase: I want to express my interests before i get to the 'add friends' business. Additionally, i'm interested in only linking up with engineers from Sweden, Finland, Brazil, Russia and China, how do i specify that i'm just keen on business networking.
How do i use facebook, if i'm not interested in locating old friends but more in serious aspects of social networking leading to more collaboration in Open Source projects, something that i'm very interested in !
Any thoughts ?
thanks
Saifi.
